Research is showing a troubling increase in suicide rates among middle aged women.

In response to this news it is important to renew efforts to address the mental health needs of the whole person, psychological, physical and spiritual.  It is also vital to honestly research and address the causes of this increase, even if it may involve looking into issues that are socially challenged.

The issues of the mental health impact upon women who have had abortions is one fraught with political and emotional intensity. Many would prefer "not to go there".  However if we truly care for the welfare of women we cannot afford to either ignore the issue or condemn those who may be impacted.  It is a matter that needs to be objectively researched and addressed.  Research  (however unpopular in some circles) would indicate that it is one potential part of this larger matter. While it is not the only cause it may well be one that needs to be rported and understood.

Whatever the issue pertaining to mental health the stigma and fear will only be overcome as we seek to grow in knowldege and understanding.  It is from that effort that true hope grows.
