Advocating for the mentally afflicted, their loved ones, and for accessible, integrated and holistic care.

 Dolorosa works to:
    Overcome the stigma of the mental illness and afflictions.
Provide information and education about mental illness and afflictions for  those experiencing mental afflictions, their loved ones, faith communities and community groups., through literature, workshops and retreats.
    To help develop accessible, integrated care  that enables the afflicted, loved ones, medical professionals, faith communities and others to work together for the health of mind, soul, body and spirit.
    Dolorosa recognizes that caring for the mental health of the whole person includes caring for the mind, soul, body and spirit in an integrated response of all these components.
    Dolorosa is Catholic in spirituality yet recognizes, respects and encourages the sharing of all faiths in responding to the need for better care of the mentally afflicted.
     Dolorosa refers to the Latin word expressed in the “Via Dolorosa”, or the Way of Suffering, the Way of the Cross Of Christ. It also can be translated “the way of roses”. It recognizes the real suffering mental afflictions can bring to the individual and their loved ones. But it  also recognizes the beauty and worth of the individual, regardless of their afflictions. It sees that suffering can have purpose, positive worth and beauty, regardless of the thorns.
    Mental afflictions may refer to:
Mental illness, Dual-diagnosis with substance abuse; Brain injury; Traumatic Psychological injury; Mental disabilities;  Life stress, anxiety and depression.  While these issues are very distinct and differ they  share common problems of stigma and the need for accessible, integrated care.  They all affect the mind, the psyche, the human soul..

BEE FACTS….

 Beeswax emits negative ions when burned. After a thunderstorm the air smells fresh as does the air near a waterfall or by the ocean. That freshness you smell is an abundance of negative ions in the air. For centuries in Russian and Greek orthodox churches these candles have been an integral part of that meditative environment. Negative ions clean the air by attaching themselves to positively charged particles of odors, toxins, dust and pollen. When they bind they become heavier and simply fall to the ground. To create this healthy environment in your home you could set up a waterfall, remove your roof when it rains, buy a negative ion emitter …or burn Beeswax candles!

* Bees form a critical link in our ecosystem by pollinating crops.

   *80% of the pollination of the fruits,          vegetables and seed crops in the U.S. is accomplished by honeybees.

    * Bees must tap over 2 million flowers to produce 1 lb. of honey.

    * These bees must consume 8.4 lbs. of honey to produce 1 lb. of beeswax.

    * Beeswax scales are secreted from the wax glands on the underside of the worker bees.

    * Natural color of the wax will develop a frosted appearance over time, called "Bloom". Bloom is a natural process created by the cupping of the microscopic beeswax scales on the surface of the candle. This delicate powdery coating is appreciated as an indicator of a pure quality product. If you prefer the shiny appearance, simply buff your candle with a soft cloth.

    * To remove spilled wax or to clean candleholders, simply place in a freezer. Wax is then easily chipped off.

 

About DOLOROSA Beeswax Candles:

Beeswax candles have a gentle, natural relaxing fragrance.  Common scented candles use artificial, chemical scents.

Our candles are only* made from natural beeswax & pure cotton wicking

Unless in a draft or confined candle holder:

Beeswax candles burn longer than cheaper synthetic waxes and are usually dripless.

Conventional paraffin candles are made from petroleum.

Beeswax candles are non-allergenic and

burn clean, without residue.

Beeswax does cost more than paraffin,  & synthetic waxes, but is clean, renewable and much longer burning.

*Bayberry candles have genuine natural bayberry     wax and bayberry oil.

* Dyed candles have a trace amount of  food grade candle dyes not tested on animals.
